Battlefield 2042

The next Battlefield game is Battlefield 2042, It's an FPS shooter.

The big news is that Battlefield 2042 doubles the number of players to 128 and redefines the class system to have "specialists" with unique gizmos. The previous Battlefield games have all tweaked the basic Battlefield format, but this feels like the most significant change to the series since it started in 2002, almost 20 years ago.

Also new is Battlefield Portal, which allows players to create their own game types and mix & combine weapons and vehicles from Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield 2042. Hazard Zone is a third mode that focuses on "high stakes, squad-based action." We're guessing he's no longer going to Escape From Tarkov-ey.

Which is the release date of Battlefield 2042?

The launch of Battlefield 2042 is scheduled for October 22, 2021. On PC, it's releasing on Origin, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

Battlefield 2042 will also come out on PS5 and the Xbox X/S. and support the Cross-Platform.

A version of Battlefield 2042 is coming to the older PS4 and Xbox One consoles, too, However, those versions do not support matches with 128 players or cross-play with the PC or new consoles.

Major changes: 128 players, specialists, not a single player mode.

The max player count has been doubled to 128 (two teams of 64) on PC and current-gen consoles.

128-player maps are divided into sectors containing control points; You must capture every checkpoint in a sector to control it.

Classes have been replaced by specialists, characters who have unique gadgets and traits but can carry any weapon and equipment loadout.

Specialist gadgets we've seen:

A grappling hook

Health/revive gun

An auto-turret

A movement sensor

A wingsuit.

No battle royale mode. None of the game's three launch modes are battle royale, but considering this represents the future of live-service battlefield, one may be introduced later.

No single player campaign. 2042 is the first Battlefield game to launch without a single player campaign since Bad Company.

How do 128-player maps work?

The increased player count is accommodated by bigger maps that are divided into sectors. Within each sector, there's essentially a mini-Battlefield match playing out. In the standard Conquest mode, teams can hold a sector by holding all of the points within it. It sounds like you could spend all your time hanging out in one map sector, but there's nothing stopping you from calling in a vehicle and heading elsewhere. The near-future tech doesn't include mechs but you can get a tank dropped from the sky using the new call-in system. (And yes, you can drop them on snipers to squash them.)

Which experts were advertised?

So far, DICE has revealed four specialists. Here's who they are and what they do:

Wikus "Casper" Van Daele

Homeland: South Africa

Class: Recon

Feature: OV-P Recon Drone (what it sounds like, a remote control spotting drone)

Speciality: Movement Sensor (he's alerted to people sneaking up behind him, at least if they move too quickly)

Webster Mackay

Homeland: Canada

Class: Assault

Feature: Grappling Hook (the 'zip and you're there' kind, not the swinging kind)

Speciality: Nimble (he moves fast)

Maria Falck

Homeland: Germany

Class: Support

Feature: S21 Syrette Pistol (heals or revives from a distance, like Doc in Rainbow Six Siege)

Speciality: Combat Surgeon (revives teammates to full health, instead of partial health)

Pyotr "Boris" Guskovsky

Homeland: Russia

Class: Engineer

Feature: SG-36 Sentry Gun (like Team Fortress 2 or Overwatch's turrets)

Speciality: Sentry Operator (sentry guns are more effective when he's nearby)

How do specialists carry out their duties?

The introduction of specialists is likely to be the most divisive development in Battlefield 2042.They're similar to Rainbow Six Siege operators in that they have names, backstories, and unique gadgets and skills, but they're more versatile in that they can use any weapon you've earned. Battlefield class archetypes like 'assault' and'recon' still exist, but DICE now refers to them as specialised categories.

There will be ten specialists at debut, with one additional specialist published every season, for a total of 14 specialists within a year of introduction.

Until recently, Battlefield classes have been very strict: you only got themed gadgets and a limited number of weapon types. Engineers receive SMGs, recon receives snipers, support receives LMGs, and so on. That's all there is to it. Battlefield 2042 will ship with ten unique gadgets that may be used with any weaponry. You may also switch between gun attachments on the fly, allowing you to, for example, zoom in on a sniper who is pestering you. It offers a lot more loadout options than any Battlefield game has ever had..

Here's what can be in a loadout, which is in addition to your specialist item and perk:

Main weapon

Equipment (e.g., medical fund, procurement fund, rocket launcher or missile launcher)

Alternate weapon

Throwable (e.g. frag/incendiary grenade, flash bang)

Battlefield 2042 modes:

Battlefield may have succumbed to the lure of becoming a character shooter, but it hasn't fallen to the other current shooter trend: there is no battle royale option, and no plans to create one. For the time being, the Battlefield 5 Firestorm mode will not be returning. There is also no single-player storyline, although you may play multiplayer-style fights against bots and progress that way if you like. The AI appears to have greatly improved. (I'll agree only if I see a bot take the helicopter I want, crash it into the side of a hill, and lie there sniping for the rest of the game.)

The three major Battlefield 2042 modes are as follows:

DICE's name for the main Battlefield game variants is "All-Out Warfare," which includes the classic point capture of Conquest and the more linear attack-and-defend engagements of Breakthrough.

Hazard Zone will be a squad-focused "high-risk" mode. That's all DICE would say for now, but based on the description and the name, I believe we may safely assume that Dark Zone, Hunt: Showdown, and Escape from Tarkov were inspirations.

According to dataminer findings, that's very close to the mark. According to the information obtained, gamers will be gathering information from various hard drives and crashed satellites once they've been dumped into the area. Tactical improvements would be offered to help with difficulties such as losing your equipment, as well as general exploration and combat. Some PvE encounters will also be scattered around the area, with AI forces patrolling with the assistance of tanks or helicopters.

Battlefield Portal was developed by DICE LA, which is now known as Ripple Effect Studios, and it's a lot of fun. It allows users to create custom games with up to 128 people, and you'll be able to construct unique game types employing maps, weaponry, and vehicles not just from Battlefield 2042, but also from Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3. Here you may learn all you need to know about how Battlefield Portal works.

What about the environment, cars, and maps?

Because Battlefield 2042 is set only 21 years in the future, the technology isn't too far-fetched: drones, robot dogs, and so on. The basic concept is standard galactic brain speculation: A number of countries have disintegrated as a result of global warming, leaving vast swaths of the world's people stateless. Naturally, stateless individuals ("Non-Patriated" or "No-Pats") have established elite mercenary forces that now fight for the United States and Russia—or perhaps for themselves. This will all be explored through seasonal updates in the absence of a singleplayer campaign.

The vehicles are futuristic renditions of aeroplanes, helicopters, tanks, and other ground vehicles. While hovercrafts are available, EA claims that naval combat has not been prioritised, despite reports that people are interested. Perhaps that will be a post-launch worry.

The new vehicle call-in feature, which drops ground vehicles from the sky, is available to any specialist with any loadout, but your squad has a vehicle budget and a call-in cooldown for each player. You can also spawn straight inside vehicles, as in previous Battlefield games.

The Ranger robot dog may also be summoned and ordered to follow you around or scout ahead. You may even instruct it to self-destruct or attach it with C4. If you ask me, it's not very nice.

The maps include large destructive set-pieces, such as the rocket on Orbital, which may either launch smoothly or not so smoothly.

EA also says that there'll be more airspace for dogfighting in jets.

Here are the seven All-Out Warfare maps that'll be at launch.

Kaleidoscope: Set in the South Korean town of Sogdo. After an attack threatens the global network, forces here will battle for control of a quantum-powered misinformation hub.

Manifest:
Set on Singapore's Brani Island. As global commerce chokes this important American supply network, players will witness a geopolitical crisis arise.

Orbital: The action takes place in the French Guiana town of Kourou. The fight here is over the location of a rocket launch, as a controversial space launch becomes a race against the time.

Discarded: Alang, India is the setting. Shipbreakers face tidal extremes as groups battle to secure renegade nuclear assets.

Renewal:
Egypt's Eastern Desert is the setting for this film. Players will compete in the Egyptian Desert for a breakthrough agriculture technology centre.

Hourglass: Doha, Qatar is the setting for this film. A city centre is torn apart by shifting dunes and a missing cargo caravan.

Breakaway: Set in Antarctica's Queen Maud Land. As an industry battles with nature and ice breaks way, troops are pushed to the edge in a battle over oil and gas.

Like last time, DICE is working with Nvidia on ray tracing, DLSS support, as well as Reflex latency optimization for players using GeForce RTX GPUs. AMD cards did well in our Battlefield 5 benchmarks, though, so owners probably shouldn't fret about the official partnership just yet.

Pre-launch and post-launch plans

DICE has confirmed the dates and locations for the first Battlefield 2042 playtests, which will take place between August 12 and 15. Participants will be required to sign NDAs, so we're unlikely to see much more footage of the game until it concludes. You may join up for these playtests, but EA will only choose "players recognised as Battlefield veterans," so you may not be able to participate.

Hazard Zone will be accessible to play early at some point after that, and a Battlefield 2042 open beta will take place in September.

Battlefield 2042 will be released in its entirety on October 22nd. The PC version will be accessible on EA's Origin shop as usual, but it will also be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store this time. (Even if you buy it on Steam, it will surely start a mini-Origin client, but it's still wonderful to have Battlefield back.)

Seasons will bring new specialties and maps, and there will be four each year, each with its own battle pass with free and paid tiers. According to EA, new maps will always be available for free to all gamers.
