Here's all we all know up to now concerning the extremely anticipated Zelda sequel.
It's unusual to see a straight sequel to a Legend of Zelda game, but Nintendo is doing exactly that with Breath of the Wild. The firm stated during E3 2019 that it is working on a successor to the Switch launch game, and the still-unnamed sequel has been one of the system's most eagerly awaited releases since then.
Despite the hype, there hasn't been much actual news about the Breath of the Wild sequel since it was initially unveiled, and we still only know so much about it thanks to its latest E3 2021 teaser. While there are still many unknowns surrounding the Breath of the Wild sequel, here's a rundown of what we know thus far.
Breath Of The Wild 2 Release Date
Nintendo revealed at E3 2021 that the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel will be released in 2022. According to Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, who came on the broadcast to discuss the game, the team's current goal is to release the game next year. Time will tell whether or not that is correct.

While the first Breath of the Wild was launched on both the Switch and the Wii U, the sequel will only be available on the Switch.

Nintendo born the primary trailer for the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel throughout its E3 2019 Direct presentation. The cryptic video follows Link and Zelda (who notably sports a replacement, shorter hairstyle) as they create their method through a mysterious underground cavern. because the try explore, tendrils of darkness is seen creep through the cavern. Link and Zelda eventually stumble upon what seems to be the supply of the darkness: a mummified male clay wearing Gerudo jewellery and apparel, presumptively Ganondorf. A series of speedy, out of order shots follow, showing Link removing the hand, the ground around Link and Zelda crumbling, the mysterious hand of sunshine catching Zelda by the gliding joint as she's falling, and therefore the clay apparently returning to life. The trailer then ends with a clip of Hyrule castle setting out to rise into the air.
Why Is A Breath Of The Wild Sequel Being Made By Nintendo?
According to Aonuma, Nintendo is creating an instantaneous sequel to Breath of the Wild as a result of it had "too several ideas" for DLC for the sport. As Aonuma explained to Kotaku at E3 2019:
"When we tend to discharged the DLC for Breath of the Wild, we tend to complete that this can be a good thanks to add a lot of parts to a similar world. however once it comes all the way down to technical things, DLC is just about information--you're adding data to a pre-existing title. so after we needed to feature larger changes, DLC isn't enough, and that is why we tend to thought perhaps a sequel would be an honest work. Initially, we tend to were thinking of simply DLC ideas, then again we tend to had a great deal of ideas and that we aforesaid, 'This is simply too several ideas, let's simply create one new game and begin from scratch.'"
Why isn't there an official title for the game yet?
The actual title of the next sequel has yet to be announced, and there's a reason for that. According to a recent IGN interview with Nintendo's Bill Trinen, the firm is intentionally withholding the sequel's name because "Zelda names are sort of significant...." "Those subtitles... they start to provide small pieces of indications about maybe what's going to happen," he continued.
When an official name is revealed, we'll make sure to update this feature. But, for the time being, we'll have to wait until Nintendo decides it's the appropriate moment.
